Family Activities For A Rainy Season
It is the rainy season of the year and depending on where you live you can go day after day with gloomy, rainy skies. This can create a lethargic atmosphere in your home and sometimes you could feel pent up or bored. This can be especially challenging if you have little ones with a lot of energy that they need to expel. Rain doesn’t mean you are stuck on the couch though, there are a lot of fun activities you can partake in with your family during the rainy season.
Rainy day walk
You have rain boots and so do your kids so just put them on and dress for the occasion. Make the most of it and let your kiddos get wet and jump in the puddles. Kids learn best when they explore so prepare your mind for the mess and go outside and embrace it.
Measure the rain
Along with being outside, turn it into a learning experience. Help your kiddos measure the rain by using a ruler or making a rain gauge to see the difference in rainfall each consecutive day. This makes them excited for the next rainy day.
Sing in the rain
This is a timeless idea that so many love when they hear the song, “singing in the rain”. Put the boots on, grab your umbrellas, play a song on your phone and sing in the rain together.

Play in the mud
You read that right. Prepare for the mess again. Give your kiddos the freedom to jump and play around in all of the mud. Make mud pies and handprints or even use the mud as paint on some cardboard.
Make a fort
If you are deciding to stay inside, then make a fort! Turn your home into a large tunnel. You can use the furniture and be creative with the spaces that you have. Let your kids come up with the design and even let them all have a sleepover together in their fort.
Learn about rain
There is so much to learn about weather and rain is its own fun topic. Read some great books about rain and how rain happens. Why do we need rain? Why is rain so important for the rest of the world? What is thunder? What is lightning? Explore all of these questions and turn them into a great learning lesson.
Look for a rainbow
Lastly, look for a rainbow after the rain. What makes a rainbow happen? This is another awesome learning opportunity for your little ones.
No matter what the rainy day feels like to you, you can make fun adjustments to help your family look forward to this season. Take some of these ideas into consideration and see how they can help adjust everyone’s mood and add excitement to your gloomy days.
